Since over 3,000 Xarelto lawsuits have been filed up to now, the Xarelto bleeding trial has been consolidated in a Multidistrict Litigation (MDL number 2592) in the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Xarelto Attorneys held Janssen responsible for thousand of patients’ deaths and injuries caused by their defective blood thinner drug. Xarelto is, in fact, a dangerous blood thinner that can cause life-threatening uncontrolled bleedings and other severe side effects. The most common Xarelto adverse reactions reported by the Xarelto lawyers included gastrointestinal bleeding, internal hemorrhages and blood clots in the brain.

The Xarelto MDL is overseen by Judge Eldon Fallon and is joined by over 500 additional Xarelto lawsuits grouped in a mass tort litigation in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In order to smooth the proceedings, the court ordered a selection of the cases that was completed on January 11, 2016. These cases will be reviewed during the first trials set for February 2017 in Louisiana, and for April and May 2017 in Mississippi and Texas. Xarelto Attorneys have been asked to select these cases to include specific Xarelto injury categories such as gastrointestinal bleeding, brain bleeding, and strokes.

Two Case Management Orders were issued to provide instructions on how to choose the cases for the bellwether trials. Judge Fallon asked the plaintiffs and their Xarelto lawyers to choose 10 cases while the defendants (Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceutica) will choose another 10. Another 20 will be randomly selected up to a total of 40 Xarelto lawsuits, among which 4 will be used to be represented on the various bellwether trial dates.
